Review: Only For You by Genna Rulon

Only For You

Only For You by Genna Rulon

synopsis

“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.

When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

This story is appropriate for readers 18+. Only For You is the first book in the For You series by Genna Rulon. Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone novel.

my-review

3 out of 5 stars

This was a really good who-done-it that was mixed with drama and romance. I liked Everyleigh and Hunters characters and enjoyed how the story unfolded. I really liked Hunter and Ev’s conversations, banter, and growing relationship. Ev was so snarky and I loved her comebacks. Hunter was such a super sweet guy and protective. Their verbal sparring was great! They seem wonderful for each other. I thought that the overall storyline was really good since it was different than a typical romance because of the mystery that was involved.

For me, the beginning was a bit slow and there were several parts that I thought were overly descriptive and used big words unnecessarily. It didn’t feel like language 20-something's would use. This was more present in the beginning but it tapered off a bit and I really started to enjoy the flow of the story. There were twists and turns along the way that kept me interested and reading and I was definitely anxious to find out who the bad guy was.

I thought the additional characters played into the story well too. I liked Ev’s roommate Sam a lot and her part in the story had me holding my breath. There is some tough subject matter in this story and I thought it was shared well and in a respectful manner.

Overall I liked it. I thought the story line was great. Definitely a good read that I would recommend. :-)
